| Engaged on Christmas Eve 2012 |
He proposed to me on Christmas Eve! What a wonderful surprise.
We had spent the evening at Nelson's sister's house with Robbie's side of the family and had a fun time playing games, eating and visiting. Afterwards I thought we were headed straight home but Robbie drove by the Farmers Branch area with all the trees full of lights. I had told him a time or two that last year while home visiting my grandfather I drove by them and they were all white. I thought it would be so neat to walk to the middle of them and take in all the lights.
He remembered!
We came up on the field and it's beautiful! All the lights are different colors this year! I say to Robbie "Look at the different colors, do you think we can stop and see?" So we pulled into an area where you can park and got out to walk around. He put a hoodie on (so weird for him to do), and come to find out it was because he had the ring in his pocket! I look out as we're walking and there's a huge blue tree (my favorite color) and I say "You want to go under that tree?" Also come to find out that's where he was wanting to go too.
It was freezing. It was romantic.
He said "You know how we always say Can I ask you something?" I said "yes". He said "I need to ask you something" and got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
I said "YES"!
So excited, emotional, surprised, overwhelmed, surreal and most of all...happy.
It hasn't been very long according to societal standards. But in my mind, it's been 12 years. Someone who started off as a person I couldn't stand, to an intriguing person, to a good friend, to someone I lost touch with, and now... to my best friend.
I am proud to be engaged to my best friend.

Thanks for sharing your engagement story!
